GBRW UPDATES

PROGRESS REPORT (1)

   Hello Sailors and friends,

It’s time for an update on the progress of Club Marine GBRW2019.

   All is going well:

NOR before the end of the month. Thanks to Rob and Sue Olsen…..again!

Doyle Sails have doubled their Raffle prizes.- Thanks Will Hammond

Seashells Hospitality have again donated the early bird prize-Thanks Paul King

Thank you to those of you who filled in your surveys in 2018.

I’ve been able to take those results to potential sponsors and while there are no solid commitments       as yet - the vibe is good and encouraging.

We have our first international entry from New York which is just a buzz for all of us. Let’s make sure we extend our Aussie hospitality to our American friends. Thanks to the people who have helped arrange their charter vessel – great supporters of Race Week from year 1.

Just for a wild rock in the pond, I emailed invitations/challenges to those other naughty Yacht Clubs that go by “GBYC”. These scallywags have been invited to send a sailor to our Race Week.

Beat us or change your name!

  • The miscreants are namely: Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club near Capetown - GBYC
  • Grand Bend Yacht Club   on Lake Ontario – GBYC
  • Greenwich Boat and Yacht Club in Connecticut USA – GBYC
  • Grand Bay Yacht Club in Mauritius – GBYC

My trolling of the internet also produced:

  • Goh Ballet Youth Club (GBYC) and
  • Great Boston Yarn Crawl (GBYC) – a knitting group

Could anyone who fancy’s themselves as either a knitter or Ballet dancer, please notify the club so I can issue an appropriate challenge.

Yes – there will be a double handed division no matter what. Your Club Marine GBRW committee believes the flat water and the relaxed format lends well to encouraging these guys.

Yes- if numbers are appropriate there will be IRC and AMS trophies.

Yes – in the racing Divisions 1 and 2 Racing we will provide windward /leewards.

This will not apply to Premier Cruising or Jib and Main.

Entries – I have just used the club website and entered on-line. Click here to take you there.

I had one hiccup, you can’t proceed to Payment without scanning your Cat 6 and a copy of your insurance. We understand this may be initially perceived as onerous but with the tragedy that occurred in our sport this year it is only prudent and appropriate.
Here’s the link to Cat 6 Audit Form https://www.sailingresources.org.au/safety/equipment-auditing/

   Social calendar.

Not giving too much away here. However, the club has a new chef on board and we are planning:

  • our annual “world first cultural extravaganza”
  • a restaurant night and
  • the usual lay-day extras.

   With Early entries we can:

  1.  Order better quality shirts and hats at cheaper prices
  2.  Know whether to arrange another course boat
  3.  Get more/better input from sponsors
  4.  Quote bigger numbers to media outlets

I’d like to arrange bikes from Busselton Bike Hire. On the lay-day are there people interested in a cycle to a winery?

Last year we played the Satchmo Cup at Dunsborough Lakes Golf club - Hackers only please but we have to book as the Wednesday after 12pm is a Club day.

Remember mooring at the club is at your risk, if you want to contact the marina go to:           https://www.portgeographemarina.com.au/

   Thank you to:

  • Club Marine -naming rights sponsor
  • The City of Busselton -major sponsor
  • Doyle Sails – major Raffle prize donor
  • Seashells Hospitality Resorts – Early bird prize

When booking your accommodation, consider Mandalay for your stay – for 10 years they have helped with the housing of the on water team. They have nice pool for a cool-off after sailing (7 mins on a bike along the cycle track from the club). https://www.mandalayresort.com.au/

Looking forward to seeing you at Club Marine GBRW 2019

   Cheers,
   Nige
